Cashmere jumpers and other musings…

Uniqlo in France

A recent post from Style Bubble made me laugh! First of all her waiver that a **GIANT DOSE OF BORING IS ABOUT TO BE FED TO YOU** and then her soliloquy to her days at Uni wearing Ferragamo “Vara” flats and Uniqlo cashmere jumpers. I was sent off on a trance about how much I adore preppy-ness, especially à la “Love Story” (which is quite possibly my favourite film wardrobe of all time), and then to thoughts on cheap cashmere jumpers from Uniqlo.

I went on the UK website for Uniqlo to look at the prices and £29.99 for a v-neck jumper seemed totally obscene! I immediately tried to buy a whole lot! But at the billing section, I realised they wouldn’t take a foreign credit card. A good thing to tell the truth, as I was a bit dubious about buying cashmere without actually feeling the quality.

Then yesterday, a friend very casually mentioned to me that he was interested to go to La Défense on Friday, as the first Uniqlo shop in France will be opening at the Commercial Centre “Les 4 Temps”!! How bizarre is that? I suppose now I have no excuse, and must certainly make the trek with him to see whether I should officially make a fuss or not!

Shop like a Garçonne - e-retailer

We’ve always known that French girls were the coolest! Inspired by the 1922 Victor Margueritte novel, La Garçonne, the new ladies’ e-retailer, is the picture of independent boho sophistication (think Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon), selling labels like 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, Jovovich-Hawk, Vena Cava, and Loeffler Randall. And they ship worldwide! I have a feeling there are going to be a lot more garçonnes this Fall!

Goodbye Mojito, Adeus Caipirinha! Bonjour Piscine!

If being trapped in an office all day long has got you down, imagine lounging by the pool in St Tropez, or moored in your yacht off Costa Smeralda: you’ve just thrown off your Melissa Odabash Fru lace dress ( and you’re wearing your new to-die-for Zimmerman & Tooshie halterneck bikini ( Sven, your fitness trainer/summer fling has kindly offered to make drinks, but how could you possibly think of ruining that pretty picture by requesting a mojito or a caipirinha?! Just because it’s warm doesn’t mean you should stoop to join the masses! In such cases as this, your only possible chic recourse is to ask for a Piscine – a delightfully refreshing mix of champagne and ice. And just in time, Piper-Heidsieck have created their own special Piscine glasses to accompany their Cuvée Brut – comme c’est magnifique!
