You send me!

Franck Sorbier stamp for La Poste

Ok so maybe I’m not officially back from sale shopping! However one I thing I will pick up before the end of the day are this year’s edition of stamps from couture houses like Franck Sorbier (above), Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Lacroix, Chanel and Givenchy (I feel very guilty – I still have to send Christmas and New Years cards! Eek!).

Getting your fashion-obsessed friends in New York (and/or the rest of America) to record an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show isn’t a usual “must-do”, but with a special episode featuring shoe-designer Christian Louboutin to be aired on January 18th, you will want to start lining up those friends and their DVD players. Or if you’re super organised you can slingbox it. Either way, notice has been given: Oprah! Christian Louboutin! A mini-film of Christian in Paris! January 18th! Ooh la la!

Welcome back for 2008!

Camile Miceli & Pharrell Williams

Welcome back in 2008! First of all I’m convinced this year is going to be amazing – remember how lucky 8 is in Chinese? Yesterday I was chatting with a friend about how sad it was that January was going to be so slow and then of course I remembered – duh! that both Men’s Fashion Week and Haute Couture will soon be upon us! One of the most hotly anticipated events coming is going to be the launch of the new Blason line of fine jewellery at Louis Vuitton! Designed by Camile Miceli and rapper Pharrell Williams, this event, which is being held at a private mansion on the avenue Foch on January 21st, is sure to bring a super bling-bling beginning to 2008!

Cashmere jumpers and other musings…

Uniqlo in France

A recent post from Style Bubble made me laugh! First of all her waiver that a **GIANT DOSE OF BORING IS ABOUT TO BE FED TO YOU** and then her soliloquy to her days at Uni wearing Ferragamo “Vara” flats and Uniqlo cashmere jumpers. I was sent off on a trance about how much I adore preppy-ness, especially à la “Love Story” (which is quite possibly my favourite film wardrobe of all time), and then to thoughts on cheap cashmere jumpers from Uniqlo.

I went on the UK website for Uniqlo to look at the prices and £29.99 for a v-neck jumper seemed totally obscene! I immediately tried to buy a whole lot! But at the billing section, I realised they wouldn’t take a foreign credit card. A good thing to tell the truth, as I was a bit dubious about buying cashmere without actually feeling the quality.

Then yesterday, a friend very casually mentioned to me that he was interested to go to La Défense on Friday, as the first Uniqlo shop in France will be opening at the Commercial Centre “Les 4 Temps”!! How bizarre is that? I suppose now I have no excuse, and must certainly make the trek with him to see whether I should officially make a fuss or not!

There’s a new girl in town! This adorable boudoir boutique is the perfect place to find a cute Christmas gift – choose from their line of handbags and accessories, as well as a selection of precious and semi-precious stone jewellery.

Citoyen, Citoyen!

lemarchecitoyen.net

I’m happy to report that being a good citizen of the world (from France) just got a whole lot easier! I, like many others I’m sure, am always wondering where the nearest bio market is, and would be happy to know where to buy fair trade goods in Paris!  Especially with Christmas approaching! Last year’s Opération Noël was a huge success, and thankfully this year’s edition has just launched, on Le Marché Citoyen. Log on to find bons plans and original gift ideas, whether they be bio, équitables or solidaires!

The Closet Raiders

Sunday’s Braderie

It is definitely the season for braderies! Everyone covets the idea of the designer ones, but even at this weeks by-invitation-only Jean-Paul Gaultier braderie (thank you Karine!) the only thing I spotted was a beautiful flamenco-like dress that was disappointingly WAY out of my budget (even at a braderie! yikes!). The other idea I like is raiding friend’s closets, which is the idea behind Viens Dans Mon Dressing! taking place this Sunday.  Become a closet raider or get inspired to throw your own version amongst friends!

Introducing Richard Prince

Richard Prince for Louis Vuitton

Above, Richard Prince logo handbag with Henny Youngman jokes.

Normally I’m not that interested in Louis Vuitton handbags, even the past artistic collaborations, but I really like the look of next season’s Richard Prince bags unveiled recently during Paris Fashion Week. Prince is a mega-star in the world of contemporary art, and has never failed to skirt controversy with his rephotographed images, some say bordering on copyright infringement and certainly questioning the hallowed concept of artistic originality and authorship (normally a major concern at luxury houses worldwide, especially Louis Vuitton). While Marc Jacobs is obviously very clued into the art scene, I think a Richard Prince collaboration at Vuitton is certainly a very cheeky and entertaining concept deserving notice, comment, and probably even a little welcomed criticism.

‘Tis the season to party at Hermès!

Hermès, 24 Faubourg Saint-Honoré

Everyone’s favourite shop (or maybe just mine…!) Hermès, located at the famous 24, rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, is getting ready to kick-off their new extended shopping space with a 24 hour party which starts at 8 pm on October 23rd. There will be dancing and musical performances throughout the night, which leads into breakfast and shopping the next day. While there’s no official stance, who’s to say that getting your favourite sales associates a little bit tipsy might not help with your advancement on the Birkin waiting-list (hey, it’s worth a try isn’t it? ;-) )

More artistically inclined clients will want an invite to the opening of H Box, the new itinerant art show by Hermès, which will open at the Centre Pompidou on November 28th. The show will run to January 5th, and features the work of artists like Alice Anderson, Yael Bartana, Sebastian Diaz Morales, and Dora Garcia; all exhibited within a massive space-pod-like structure designed by the artist-architect Didier Fiuza Faustino!

Hermès, 24 rue du Fbg St-Honoré, 75008 Paris, 01 40 17 47 17, M° Concorde or Madeleine

H Box from Nov. 28 2007 – Jan. 5 2008, Centre Pompidou, Place Georges Pompidou, 75004 Paris, 01 44 78 12 33, M° Rambuteau or Hôtel-de-Ville
